  Solatium Fund Scheme is a scheme introduced in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act to provide compensation to the victims of a Hit and Run motor accident.

What is the amount of compensation payable under the Scheme?
The amount of compensation is Rs.25,000/- in the event of death and Rs.12,500/- for grievous injuries.
Where are the prescribed forms available for making an application? 
The prescribed forms are available with the Mandal Revenue Officer of the respective Mandal.
What is the procedure for making a claim application? 
The applicant shall submit the application seeking the compensation in the prescribed form to the Claims Enquiry Officer of the Sub-division/Taluk or Mandal where the accident takes place.
Is there any time limit to make an application? 
YES. One has to submit an application within 6 months from the date of accident.

An application made after 6 months but not after 12 months from the date of accident may be accepted by the Claims Enquiry Officer, if he is satisfied that there are reasonable grounds to condone the delay.
What is the role of the Claims Enquiry Officer?
On receipt of the claim application, the Claims Enquiry Officer shall
  Obtain a copy of the inquest report, FIR, post mortem or certificate of injury as the case may be from the concerned authorities and hold an enquiry in respect of claims arising out of hit and run accidents.
  Decide the rightful claimants.
Submit the report to the Claims Settlement Commissioner.
Who shall sanction the claim? 
On receipt of the report of the Claims Enquiry Officer, the Claims Settlement Commissioner will sanction the claim. Claims Settlement Commissioner means the District Magistrate, the Deputy Commissioner, the Collector, or other Officer in-charge of a Revenue District in a State appointed by the State Government.
Is there any time limit for processing the claim? 
The Claims Enquiry Officer has to submit his report to Claims Settlement Commissioner within a month's time from the date of receipt of the claim application.

The Claims Settlement Commissioner shall sanction the claim within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the report and communicate the sanction order along with the duly discharged receipt and the undertaking in the prescribed form to the Nominated Office of the Insurance Company.

Where the Claims Settlement Commissioner has any doubt in respect of the report submitted by the Claims Enquiry Officer, he shall return the report for further enquiry indicating the specific points on which the enquiry is to be made.
Who are the beneficiaries? 
Claims arising out of death payment shall be made to the legal representatives of the deceased as decided by the Claims Enquiry Officer and in respect of grievous hurt the payment shall be made to the person injured.
Within how many days the payment will be made by the insurance company?
Once the sanction order together with the discharge receipt and the undertaking in the prescribed form is received from Claims Settlement Commissioner, the Insurance Company will effect payment within 15 days from the date of receipt of the sanction order.

The payment will be made by cheque or demand draft through registered post with an acknowledgement due directly to the claimant.
