Volkswagen To Roll Out Cars In India Shortly
September 10, 2006

Delhi, Sept 10: German car maker Volkswagen said it will start rolling out small cars in India and a final decision on the plant location was expected in "weeks" time.
"We have done a research of the Indian market and we would be rolling out small cars first here, though we have a complete range of vehicles available," Volkswagen Group Research Director Wolfgang Steiger said.

He, however, declined to comment on when the car was expected to hit the Indian market, but said that modifications in the vehicle was "inevitable" considering the Indian road conditions were far more different from that in Europe.

When asked where the company has decided to set up is manufacturing unit in India, he said, "A decision would be taken in a few weeks time and announced."

The company has been reported to be in talks with various state governments, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Punjab, after the problems it had undergone while trying to set up in Andhra Pradesh.
