Indigo tops the list followed by Logan, for the sedan sales in February
March 07, 2008

New Delhi, 07 March 2008: Tata Motors topped the list of highest sedan sellers for the month of February, with their Indigo sedan recording a sales of around 3322 units during the month. This was on account of the huge demand for the newly launched compact sedan - Indigo CS - which also avails concessional excise duty. Costing Rs.4.3 lakh, the Indigo CS is the lowest priced sedan currently available in the Indian market.

Though it took some time to establish market, Mahindra-Renault's Logan took the second spot, outselling the traditional rivals like Maruti, Honda and Hyundai. Mahindra-Renault sold 2753 units of Logan in February. Logan, after successive pricing and re-positioning in the market, comes for Rs 4.5 lakh for petrol and Rs 5.75 lakh for diesel variant. According to industry analysts, it has posted strong performance due to high demand in commercial fleet operations and customers upgrading from the premium hatchback segment.

Honda, Hyundai and Maruti occupied third to fifth positions respectively. Honda had sold 2310 units of CityZX, Hyundai achieved sales of 2132 units of Verna while Maruti Suzuki has sold 1953 units of SX4 in February.

Mahindra-Renault had sold more than 22500 units of Logan, since its launch in May last year. While the company has ruled out any hatchback or  sub-4metre variant, which is taxed at concessional 12% excise (after the budget), against 24% for all other sedans, it will soon be launching a new brand campaign for Logan.

Logan’s improved sales in February has enabled the company to increase it's market share in the mid-size car segment to 16.8% as against 12% in January.
